There does not seem to be a serious risk of being exposed to COVID in dental settings, mainly as the pandemic is slowing down. This is what the American Dental Association told the White House Office of Management and Budget.
The ADA added that dentists have faced remarkably low monthly incidences of COVID. It has been noted that the collective COVID infection rate was just 2.6 percent for dentists and 3.1 percent for dental hygienists as of November 2020 & October 2020 respectively, prior to the general availability of COVID-19 vaccines.
ADA also stated that since then, 87.5 percent of dentists have been fully vaccinated and another 5.3 percent of dentists have received at least one dose of vaccine. The dental infection figures were part of a study performed by the American Dental Association's Science and Research Institute & Health Policy Institute that peered at online survey statistics gathered from June 8 to November 13, 2020, from more than 2,000 United States dentists about infection control practices and COVID infection. The survey is published in the recent issue of The Journal of the American Dental Association.
